VAGABONDAGE II - Ref. VII Calibre 1509
The F.P. Journe Vagabondage II Ref. VII is an exceptionally rare and technically fascinating timepiece that embodies François-Paul Journe’s philosophy of mechanical innovation and artistic design. Produced as an ultra-limited series of only 10 pieces, this watch represents one of the most exclusive interpretations of the Vagabondage collection.
Crafted in platinum, the distinctive Flat Tortue case is dramatically elevated with 65 baguette-cut diamonds (~6.55 carats) set around the bezel, creating a bold contrast between high jewelry and avant-garde horology. The sculptural case measures 42.5 × 37.5 mm, giving the watch a strong wrist presence while maintaining elegant proportions.
At the heart of the watch is the manual-winding Calibre 1509, featuring Journe’s signature digital jumping hours and minutes displayed through apertures. The time appears through rotating discs, delivering a precise, instantaneous change at each hour and minute — a complication that requires significant mechanical energy and careful engineering. A small seconds display sits at the lower portion of the dial, accompanied by a power reserve indicator.
The dial itself is made from smoked sapphire, allowing a partial view of the intricate movement beneath. A steel dial bridge with 18K white gold apertures frames the digital displays, while blued steel hands add a subtle traditional touch to the otherwise futuristic layout.
Completing the watch is a black leather strap with a platinum folding clasp, also set with 18 baguette diamonds (~0.95 carats), reinforcing the watch’s status as both a haute horology masterpiece and a piece of high jewelry.
